On the market, the price surge was explained by a weakening of the US dollar – following the Federal Reserve’s interest rate meeting on Wednesday.

2220 dollars per troy ounce

“The price of gold rose sharply on Thursday night and reached a record high. At times, 2220 US dollars (2047 euros) was paid for a troy ounce (approx. 31.1 grams) on the London Stock Exchange, the highest price ever. In the morning, the price of gold was slightly lower again at 2207 dollars. This is around one per cent higher than the previous day’s price.

On the market, the price surge was explained by the weakness of the US dollar. The previous evening, the US Federal Reserve had left the key interest rate unchanged in the range of 5.25 to 5.50 per cent, as expected, and indicated that it would continue to cut interest rates three times over the course of the year.”
